UP

After that post where I went all ranty-pants on you, things started to look up.

The next day I woke up feeling pretty positive, and surprise surprise – we got a small bit of news about our flat (no we still aren’t moved in yet, but fingers crossed we get the go ahead this week), and I got a small job lead. Both tiny little smidgens of news – nothing amazing – but enough to make me feel better. That, and going all ranty-pants and getting it out helped! It’s also nice to hear I’m not alone – and that other people have had similar struggles here in London.

I got out of the house and went on a “day-trip” to Milton Keynes on Thursday. This is where Jase’s office is, and its about an hours drive north of London (or a 20min express train ride). MK is famous for round-a-bouts and concrete cows. Needless to say, it wasn’t much of an eventful day!

Friday I decided I had done enough “work” for the week so gave myself the day off. I went for Japanese with Natalie at lunch, and then headed for drinks with the ex-PPR crew (my old Auckland PR agency) who were living in London. It was great to catch up with some friendly faces, and meet some other PPR’ers! I wore my bright red MAC Rubywoo lipstick too, which always cheers me up (despite the morose face, I promise!).

Unfortunately, the weekend came and I was struck again by killer atmospheric pressure headaches. Friggin London and it’s friggin grey gloomy skies! I just have to hope my body adjusts to it, or the sun comes out (hah!) or something. I’m chowing down on nurofen like candy.

We did manage to make it out for a “date night” on Sunday – something that I think we both badly needed after yet another stressful week. We headed to the movies to see American Reunion – the follow up to the American Pie classic teen movies. Jase LOVES the American Pie movies – they came out riiiight about the time we were at high school, and I guess it struck a chord with his sense of humour!

I can’t say I am a massive American Pie fan, but I did enjoy watching the Reunion. It was full of cringe worthy crass moments (as expected) but also some surprisingly funny parts. Like laugh out loud parts. My favourite line? Where Milf Guy #1 (yes, I looked up the character name…and that’s it!) says “so…are you coming to the Reunion? I booked Chumbawumba to play but they just cancelled on me. Don’t worry, I get knocked down, but I get up again”. I thought this was hilarious, but I guess the other 8 people in the audience must have either missed the witty line, or didn’t know who Chumbawumba was due to their age, as I was the only one doubled up with laughter.

The soundtrack was great, so many late 90′s classics that I was humming along to. I guess when I was that age music was really important to me, I listened to the radio lots and knew all the words to the songs like Wannabe by the Spice Girls, Last Night by Good Charlotte and I’ll make love to you by Boys II Men. Total classics.

Finally last night I made it out of the house again for Cat’s birthday – a wonderful girls night out at the Palace Theatre to see Singing in the Rain. I’ll admit that while I love musicals, I hadn’t actually seen the movie or knew much about this one, apart from the title song. Well – it was wonderful! The costumes, the singing, the dancing – just fantastic. Without giving too much away, the special effects (of real rain…what else!) were really great and so interactive!

So all in all – things are looking UP. I’ve decided that I need to get out of the house regularly, spend a bit of “mental health” money for a coffee here and there, or a catch up with a friend. I’ve been running 3 days a week and have a nice 5km loop sorted. This morning I even busted out an extra km just coz I could! The fresh air and exercise helps with settling down for some job hunt concentration.

Fingers crossed for some more progress this week!

p.s. for those that are wondering what has happened to the travel posts – they are coming! Posterous is being a pain, and I literally have 5 posts that I am trying to publish. Right now I am in the process of switching the blog over to wordpress, which should make posting way more consistent! Stay tuned!
