Waitangi Day

When we heard that there was going to be a big Waitangi Day party held in Vancouver – we knew we had to be there! And what an awesome day it was!

On the menu: pies & chips, mince nachos, wedges with sour cream, and kiwi burgers!

On the drinks list: Steinlager Pure (until we drunk the bar dry), 42 Below and Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc.

Oh the fun that was had – Waitangi Day branded Icebreaker tees for sale, Ramotaur, minties, burger rings, raffles for a meat pack (!!) and other awesome prizes, pop quizzes for non Kiwi’s, Kiwi music, a video reel of typical kiwi TV (shorty anyone?!), a haka, a “best kiwi tattoo” competition and lots of great new friends made.

The best part? All the money raised (from the door entry, raffle, t-shirts etc) is going back to NZ for the Rena appeal. We dropped a fair bit of coin, and so did many many others that day – so it’s nice to know its going to a really good cause.

It was great to be out celebrating being a Kiwi, surrounded by other Kiwi’s. There was nothing but pride and a whole lotta love in that room – and that’s the way Waitangi Day should be.

A big Ka-Pai to the organisers too – you guys rock!

Sounds way better than Waitangi Day in NZ!!!! And that’s so lovely of them to donate it to the Rena mess! Why did NZ not think of something like this?!

That pie just made my tummy growl…
